First, you need to download the virtual machine application software, such as vmware. Second, download the kalilinux image file. Finally, add the virtual machine by loading the linux image through vmware.

KaliLinux, formerly known as BackTrack, is a Debian-based Linux distribution that supports the ARM architecture and contains many security and forensics-related tools. Among them, KaliLinux2.0 is based on Debian Jessie, bringing a new 4.0 kernel, while updating the desktop environment and tools, etc.

1. Preparation before installation

Download the KaliLinux2.0 system and start the installation.

Since KaliLinux2.0 is based on DebianJessie, its version number is 8, so the version is Debian8.x.

Customize the name of the virtual machine system and select the installation location. Then follow the "New Virtual Machine Wizard" to set up, and select "Edit Virtual Machine Settings" when completed.

In the "Hardware" tab of "Virtual Machine Settings", select the storage location of the KaliLinux2.0 system image file, and then set the network connection to "Bridge Mode".

2. Installation process

Click "Open this virtual machine" to start the installation.

Select "Install" in the image below.

Select the system language according to your own preferences. Here I choose Simplified Chinese.

Select "Region"----"Configuration Keyboard"----"Disk Partition"...Follow the installation boot settings. The installation process may be a bit time-consuming, please be patient.

After restarting, the following login interface appears, which means you have successfully installed the kalilinux2.0 system.

Finally install VMwareTools. The installation process will not be described in detail (if not, please refer to my other experience: installing VMwareTools on a Linux system under a virtual machine VM).

After installing VMwareTools, just set the window to "Automatically adapt to the client", and the desktop window of kalilinux2.0 will fill the entire client screen.

Open vmwareworkstation. And click New Virtual Machine. As shown below

We will install the kalilinux operating system later. Here we choose to install the operating system later and click "Next".

Enter to select the guest operating system. We choose linux system. And click "Next"

Keep clicking Next. Until we are asked to select the disk capacity. The file system needs to have more than 10G space. If our computer hard drive space is large enough. We can fill in more space. Here I used 30G. And select "Save virtual machine disk as a single file"

After configuring the virtual machine, remove the printer and floppy disk and add the system disk to the optical drive . Because we don't use printers in the virtual machine. Floppy disks are also outdated.

At this time we start the virtual machine and start installing the kalilinux system and select graphical installation

Just keep the default domain name here. You can also leave it blank. We just installed it on a virtual machine. It's not a server.

Fill in a root password. Because it's on a virtual machine. Just write down the password and remember it. If it is installed on a computer, please write it more complicatedly. It's so safe.

Start partitioning. Newbies are advised to use the entire hard drive. You can also choose to assign manually.

After the partitioning is completed, it can be installed. Select Yes. Then wait slowly.

After the system installation is completed, the software package will be configured to use network mirroring. Select Yes.

The next step will prompt us to use a proxy. We don’t have to write. You can write it after installing it.

After the software installation is completed, we will be prompted to install GRUB. Just select Yes.
